Also called Prasiolite or Green Amethyst, Green Quartz is a fine stone belonging to the silicate category. It has an attractive olive green colour. The name Prasiolite comes from the Greek "lithos" meaning "stone" and "prason" meaning "leek" because of the green colour of the stone. Formerly semi-precious, it belongs to the category of silicates, and more specifically to that of testosilicates. It is composed of sodium and calcium. Prasiolite is basically a purplish, sometimes grey amethyst. When heated to no less than 650°C, it becomes both green and transparent. It is mainly found in the Montezuma mine in the state of Bahia in Brazil.
