Named after Eugène Dumortier, its discoverer, Dumortiérite is composed of aluminium borosilicate? Its crystal system is orthorhombic.
Aventurine belongs to the quartzite group. It has a hardness of 6.7 on the Mohs scale and a specific gravity of around 2.65.
The mineral comes mainly from Brazil, Canada, France, Madagescar, Poland, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the United States.
