Description: The black agate with bands or ribbon is a quartz which constitutes a variety of chalcedony. It is a fine stone which exists in several varieties, red, yellow, blue, green or black.
The name agate comes from the Greek akhates, and is named after a river in Sicily where it was found in abundance.
Black banded or ribboned agate has white or cream bands.
Agate has a hardness of 6.5 to 7 (scale of 10) and a density of 2.58 to 2.64.
Ribbon agate is found mainly in Brazil.
